Tutor – Harpurhey (M9)
Helping secondary-aged pupils re-engage with learning at a level that works for them.

Some pupils don’t fit the mould of mainstream education – and that’s where you come in.

We’re currently looking for tutors to work with secondary-aged students (11–16) who are working at a primary level due to gaps in learning, SEN needs, or time missed from school. These pupils are often out of mainstream education and need patient, consistent support to help them build confidence and make progress at their own pace.

Tuition typically takes place on a one-to-one basis, either at the pupil’s home or in a quiet community setting such as a local library in the Harpurhey (M9) area.

The role at a glance:

One-to-one tuition for pupils aged 11–16 who are working below expected levels (usually KS1 or KS2)

Focused sessions in English and Maths, with an emphasis on building confidence and routine

Flexibility to work around your availability – sessions are scheduled between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday

£25–£30 per hour depending on experience

Roles available on a part-time or full-time basis

Who is this suited to?

You don’t need to be a qualified teacher – though it’s welcome – but you do need experience working with young people who need a more individualised approach to learning. This could suit a teaching assistant, tutor, or mentor who understands the challenges some pupils face and who can create a calm, encouraging environment for learning.

We’d especially like to hear from you if you:

Have experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH or significant learning gaps

Can confidently deliver engaging lessons in English and Maths at primary level

Are comfortable working independently and managing your own time

Understand the importance of building trust, routine, and self-esteem

Hold (or are happy to apply for) an Enhanced DBS on the update service

Why this role matters:

This type of tuition isn’t about racing through a curriculum — it’s about helping a young person feel safe, supported and capable of learning again. For many pupils, your sessions might be their only structured education that week. The progress may be slow at first, but your impact can be lasting.

What we offer:

Competitive hourly rate: £25–£30 per hour

Weekly pay through PAYE (no umbrella company)

Full support from a dedicated consultant who understands your area

Opportunities for CPD and training
