Materials Team Leader

Location: Bolton

Salary: Up to £53,000 + Overtime, Bonus, Pension & Hybrid Working

Working within a world leading, technical engineering organisation, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Materials Team Leader who will be responsible for the effective management and efficient operation of the Materials Laboratory including taking responsibility for the management and career development of 3 to 4 engineers. You will ensure that manufacturing processes and materials are fit for purpose and compliant with national and international regulations and standards. As a member of the Materials and Processes UK team, you will carry out activities in support of all aspects of manufacturing, both within the company facilities and the supply chain.

Materials Team Leader responsibilities

* To manage and maintain the services of the Materials & Process Laboratory.

* To provide expertise in the specification and acquisition of process equipment for use within manufacturing.

* Provide advice and support to Procurement / Projects/ Engineering regarding the processing capability of sub-contractors.

* Routine hands on material testing including: Micro sections and examination of a variety of components, tensile and hardness testing of materials, chemical and physical testing of materials.

* Provide a focus for environmental information and legislation relevant to the manufacturing facility.

* Provide material, Health & Safety information to Operations and expert advice and analysis for COSHH assessments and hazardous waste removal as required.

* Support to Design, providing expert advice on materials selection and process techniques.

* Advice to site Facilities Management and Projects regarding the acquisition of plant and equipment.

* Provide technical leadership and direction to a multi-disciplined team to ensure project deliverables are on time and to budget.

Materials Team Leader skills and qualifications required:

* Ideally degree or equivalent in a science based subject such as Materials Science, Metals Finishing, Chemistry or Metallurgy.

* Significant experience of running a busy laboratory.

* Significant theoretical and practical experience in engineering materials or metal finishing including knowledge of surface coating, painting, plating, joining techniques and adhesive bonding process with experience of COSHH and REACH including Environmental issues associated with a manufacturing centre.

* A confident communicator with the ability to work at many different levels in the company, as well as with suppliers and be able to practice good stakeholder management and engagement.

* Experience of small team leadership

* Ability/flexibility to travel to other locations when required.
