We're seeking a motivated Junior/Mid-Level Asterisk Engineer to join a growing communications business in Manchester. This role offers hands-on experience working with Asterisk telephony systems, supporting platform stability, call routing, and integration with VoIP technologies. If you have a passion for VoIP, Linux, and telephony development with some real-world exposure, this is a great opportunity to develop your skills alongside industry experts.
The Role
Support and maintain Asterisk PBX and dialplan configurations
Assist in developing AGI and AMI scripts for call control automation
Help manage SIP trunks, VoIP gateways, and troubleshoot call routing
Monitor telephony system performance with tools like Grafana or Wireshark
Work with databases such as MySQL for telephony data integration
Collaborate with senior engineers to deploy and optimize VoIP services
Participate in on-call rotations and escalate issues as needed
What We're Looking For
Some practical experience or exposure to Asterisk or other VoIP platforms
Basic scripting abilities in Python, PHP, Perl, or Bash
Familiarity with Linux server administration and networking fundamentals
Understanding of SIP, RTP, and core VoIP protocols
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and teamwork skills
Eagerness to learn and grow within telephony engineering
